Of Sugar Plum Fairies and Cavalier Princes: Albano's "Nutcracker" plays Mohegan Sun

    Albano Ballet's "The Nutcracker." (Contributed)

This is one of those "time flies" facts: Albano's "Nutcracker" is marking its 14th year at Mohegan Sun, and it's celebrating its 54th year in Connecticut in general.

Albano is following shows in Middletown and New Britain earlier this month with a full slate of performances at the Mohegan Sun's Cabaret Theater this weekend.

The cast is replete with international dancers, including Miku Kawamura from Japan, Sabrina Rinaldi from Croatia and Berengere Condomines from France. Kawamura and Hanna Holcomb alternate the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy, while Henry Seth — formerly of the New York City Ballet — and Eric Carnes alternate as the Cavalier Prince.

They join the 100-plus kids and adults in the piece. Taking part in the children's scenes are dancers from All The Right Moves dance school in Norwich, the New England Dance Academy in Cromwell, and the Kinsella Performing Arts Magnet High School in Hartford.

They'll be accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by Maestro Daniel Lee.

    Albano's "Nutcracker," 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Cabaret Theater, Mohegan Sun; $32-$38 ($26-$32 for kids); (860) 232-8898, (860) 832-1989, albanoballet.org.
