Classical ensemble performs Saturday in Old Saybrook

    Violinist Todd Phillips (Contributed)

It's been a rigorous and music-spangled four weeks for Chestnut Hill Concerts, and their 2016 season concludes Friday in Old Saybrook's Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

It's a fine program and, while I'd never presume to know what was going on in music director/cellist Ronald Thomas' mind, the selected material seems a fine aesthetic segue from summer into the mellow days of autumn. Along with violinists Catherine Cho and Todd Phillips, violist Cynthia Phelps and pianist Mihae Lee, Thomas will wring maximum nuance from Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins, Op. 56; Beethoven's Cello Sonata in G Minor, Op. 5, no. 2; and Schumann's Piano Quintet in E-flat, Op. 44.

Chestnut Hill Concerts, 8 p.m. Friday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $30, $35; 1-877-503-1286.
