'Gomez-Peña Unplugged' at Conn College
Guillermo Gomez-Peña, a Mexican poet, playwright and performance artist, will perform his new spoken word monlogue, "Gomez-Peña Unplugged,” at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Connecticut College's Palmer Auditorium as part of the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology's Body and Technology Colloquia Series at Connecticut College.
The performance is free and open to the public.
The performance draws from Gomez-Peña's 30-year-old “living archive” and combines new and classic performance material to present a unique perspective. Since two performances are never quite the same, Gomez-Peña will cater his presentation with texts that best represent the local audience and current world concerns. He will combine spoken word poetry, radical storytelling and language experimentation to offer critical and humorous commentary about current cross-cultural issues.
The awards Gomez-Peña has won include the United States Artists Fellow award and the Cineaste Lifetime Achievement Award. He was the first Chicano artist to receive the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship.
