    Tritonal plays Shrine on Tuesday

As we now know, sampling as a compositional device in music can be stunningly creative or, in many cases, outright theft (see self-proclaimed genius Kayne West, allegedly ripping off Eddie Bo, King Crimson, Aphex Twin, etc etc).

Sometimes, sampling is sorta lazy. Consider the new hit song by the hooky Austin EMD duo Tritonal called "He MaMaMa." Don't get me wrong: I like Tritonal, and EDM is an art form built around layered samples. But "Hey MaMaMa" is essentially nothing more than the, ah, "Hey MaMaMa" snippet from Dream Academy's anthemic '80s tune "Life in a Northern Town" — repeated over and over against a galloping beat and lush orchestration. Oh, well, at least the video has a dancing nudist cavorting amongst jungle beasts.

In any event, when Tritonal hit the stage Tuesday at Shrine in Foxwoods, fans will decidedly NOT care if the duo mailed it in on "Hey MaMaMa" because it still sounds damned good — and hits like "Blackout," "Rewind" and "Broken" (featuring Adam Lambert) ensure the dance floor will be at capacity.

    Tritonal, 9 p.m. Tuesday, Shrine, Foxwoods; $15; 1-800-200-2882.
