Texas alt-country act Green River Ordinance plays Wolf Den Friday
Growth and maturation are part of the creative process — unless your name is the Ramones or AC/DC, and we don't or didn't want those people to change.
Green River Ordinance, though, have undergone a decided aural shift in their decade-and-a-half together. Formed as teens who aspired to sound like one of those Matchbox 20 acts, they actually scored a major label deal and toured with Collective Soul and Eisley. But the members of the quintet have now doubled in age and, as per last year's "Fifteen" album, are exploring the country/southwest sound oft-associated with their hometown of Fort Worth.
The new GRO is a pretty damned good band — great harmonies, pleasant tunes with evocative lyrics that occasionally veer too closely to Frat Country without ever actually diving-in, sterling musicianship — and their free show Friday in the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den should constitute time well-spent.
Green River Ordinance, 8 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Wolf Den; free; 1-800-745-3000.
