Flock revives "Long Day's Journey" at Monte Cristo Cottage

You know how TV networks have taken to calling repeats “encore presentions”?

Well, in the case of Flock Theatre’s reviving its production of “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” it really can be considered an encore. After sell-outs last year, Flock is giving people who didn’t get a chance to see it another opportunity.

And opportunities are limited, considering that the venue only accommodates about 25 audience members at each performance. You see, Flock is staging Eugene O’Neill’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece in the place it is set: the Monte Cristo Cottage, O’Neill’s boyhood home in New London.

The cast members who played the Tyrones (the name for the fictional version of the O’Neills in the drama) in last year’s production return — Anne Flammang, Christie Williams, Victor Chiburis and Eric Michaelian. Madeleine Dauer steps into the role of Cathleen, the family’s maid. Derron Wood directs.

Performances are on Saturdays and Sundays from April 7 through May 20, with most of them presented this way: the first half of the play starts at 3 p.m., followed by a break that’s more than enough time for dinner, should you be so inclined, and then the second half starts at 7:30.

There are also a trio of special performances, where each scene will be staged at a time of day similar to the one specified in the script. In those performances, each successive act is performed at: 9 a.m., and 12:45, 7 and 8 p.m. Those shows are April 21 and 28 and May 5; the April 28 is the only one not sold out as of press time.

As if all that isn’t interesting enough, consider this: Flock’s “Long Day’s Journey” last year marked the first full production ever staged in the Monte Cristo Cottage.

“Long Day’s Journey into Night,” April 7-May 20, Monte Cristo Cottage, 325 Pequot Ave., New London; April 7 and 14 and Sundays, first half starts at 3 p.m., second half at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $35; there are special performances with Act I at 9 a.m., Act II at 12:45 p.m., Act III at 7 p.m., and Act IV at 8 p.m., with tickets $45; tickets are sold out to April 21 and May 5 dates, but April 28 remained available at press time; (860) 443-3119, email flocktheatre@hotmail.com
