Cool things to know about the fine Maine folk songwriter Dan Blakeslee:

    • He's also a respected fine artist whose work includes rock show posters, album covers for other bands, and actual beer label designs for such esteemed outfits as the Portsmouth and Northampton breweries. Let's hope he got paid in growlers!

    • His always compelling albums twist and turn through the hollows and byways of folk tradition and innovation, and include "Tatnic Tales," "Owed to the Tanglin' Wind," and last year's double-disc "The Alley Walker" (with his band Calabash Club)

    • Blakeslee is delighted by Halloween, and, in his e'er-October alter ego, Doctor Gasp, once played a seven-state fall itinerary — 31 shows, 25 days — that formed a connect-the-dots Jack-o'-Lantern face on a map of New England. I love this guy.

Blakeslee appears at noon today as our guest on The Day's "Live Lunch Break" concert series in New London's Telegraph Records Shop.
