Pennsylvania gaming regulators today granted Foxwoods Resort Casino and its partners a license to build and operate a riverfront casino in south Philadelphia, a Foxwoods spokesman said.
The license, awarded by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, will allow the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to proceed with proposed Foxwoods Casino Philadelphia, the tribe’s first off-reservation gaming project.
The tribe will own 30 percent of the casino and will operate the property, which will initially include 3,000 slot machines, restaurants and retail shops along Interstate 95. Later expansions would add a hotel, spa and room for an additional 2,000 slots. The total investment would be around $823 million.
