Westerly - The Westerly Hospital announced Thursday that it has been notified that its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program has been certified by The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
"We are excited to have received this certification," said Donna Villano, Director of the hospital's cardiopulmonary department. "The Westerly Hospital is one of only two hospitals in Rhode Island to have its cardiac rehab program certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. This certification recognizes that the hospital has met rigorous standards in the delivery of cardiac rehabilitation care."
According to Villano, the hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is an outpatient program based on lifestyle modification and exercise. Participants meet three times per week for twelve weeks. The program is supervised by exercise physiologists, a registered nurse a medical director and others.
Participation in the program requires a physician referral after heart attack, bypass surgery, angina, stent, heart and valve surgery or heart transplant. Components of the program include supervised progressive exercise and activity; nutrition education; blood pressure and cholesterol control; smoking cessation; stress management; weight management and diabetes control.
