Milford may have a mountain lion -- or at least is awaiting tests to confirm that the big cat killed June 11 on the Wilbur Cross Parkway was in fact a mountain lion.
But here in New London, we have an actual lion. Granted he’s stuffed, but the sight of the African lion rearing and ready to pounce out of the window at New London Antiques Center on Bank Street, is well, actually, thrilling.
“Isn’t it magnificent,’’ says Wayne Denton of Richmond, R.I., who sells his antiques and collectables at a booth inside the shop. “They did a good job on him.”
Denton, who has other smaller taxidermy animals on display and for sale, including three black bears and the heads of ibex, cape eland and prong horn, bought the lion in Philadelphia for “the wow factor.”  He’s selling it for $12,000.
Not that he expects a rush on buyers.
“It catches people’s attention,’’ he said. “And it gets them into our booth. Most people are fascinated with it.
