What are the major issues for your town? While the major issues in the town of East Lyme are not what has me rerunning for my seat on the Board of Education I am hoping to continue what I have been working on and what means a lot to me which is the drug and alcohol issues in our town. Ever since I have been on the Board I have been on the Drug and Alcohol committee and working with another Board member, the East Lyme Youth Services, and SERAC we founded the Alcohol Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (ASAP) in 2009. We meet every month to discuss ways in which to educate and inform the community about this growing problem.

What makes you the best candidate for this office? I believe I am a good candidate for this office because as a current Board member I have knowledge of what is currently happening in our district and being the mother of young children I have a grasp of what is affecting them. I also try to keep up with all of the current issues involving our education system by attending the yearly CABE conference, reading the CABE monthly journals, and the American School Board Journal.

What was the last book you read, and what did you think of it? The last book I read was Stop Drop and Roll with my kindergarten daughter for Fire Safety Week at school and I am currently reading Alice in Wonderland with my third grade son. They are great books and it is always a pleasure to read to my children because I believe that books are a wonderful part of life that is fast becoming obsolete. With the advent of “campaign season” I have not had much time for my own reading but I always take the time to read with my children.
