Saturday night’s Hygienic Rock Fix was pretty much a start-to-finish blast of musical greatness. The tunes flowed faster and faster -- sorta like the jetstream of beer from the Sam Adams tap.
Plus, it was in the hallowed halls of the Crocker House Ballroom that I learned of another local music project worthy of note.
Good Sponge Records — headed up by the Rivergods’ Ben Parent — has completed a 15-song compilation called Nights in White Satin — Yelawolf Raps the Golden Hits of the Moody Blues.
Oh, wait — that’s not what it’s called.
Actually, it’s The Good Sponge Sampler, Vol. 1, and features new tracks by Carl Franklin, the Sue Menhart Band, Anne Castellano and Hugh Birdsall, Dave Rave, Dogbite, Dirt Road Radio, Amalgamated Duck, Lauren Angelli, John Fries & the Heat, the Franklin Brothers, Nancy Parent, Chris Mackay & the Tone Shifters, Monkey 68, Kevin Salley, and the Franklin Brothers.
If you’re wise — and of course you are — you can download at once via http://www.goodsponge.com/.
If you think you can metaphorically — or literally — hold your breath, the physical CD will be ready and available at a release party on March 31 in the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s Rose Barn. Many of the folks featured on the album will be performing.
And speaking of such things, tune in tonight at 7 p.m. on WCNI-90.9. Host Anne Castellano, featured on the album, will play the entire CD and several of the artists will drop by to wax musically and perhaps even perform.
