UConn officially introduced Warde Manuel as the school's new athletic director Monday morning.
Coach Jim Calhoun issued a comment about hiring through a press release.
"I know our senior administrators have been working very hard to find the best candidate available to become our new Director of Athletics and they are very excited to be able to hire Warde Manuel.
"He seems like the perfect fit for us -- someone who is going to help lead us into the future. I am happy and excited to welcome him into the UConn family and I'm very much looking forward to working with him."
Calhoun remains out on an indefinite medical leave of absence due to a painful lower back condition. He's missed the last three games.
Calhoun is not expected to coach Wednesday when UConn hosts DePaul at Gampel Pavilion.
In other news, freshman Andre Drummond (sprained right ankle) and sophomore Jeremy Lamb (sprained right big toe) sat out practice Monday. They're both considered day-to-day.
