Preston — Two Groton residents were taken to the William W. Backus Hospital on Friday after the car they were driving went out of control while trying to avoid a deer on Route 12.

The incident, which occurred just south of Route 2A, sent Tracy L. Harvey, 38, and Joseph R. Harvey, 41, both of 51 Holland Road in Groton, to the hospital. They were transported by Poquetanuck Ambulance, and their car had to be towed away.
