Five students from the Leonard J. Tyl Middle School won awards in their district in a National History Day competition held March 24 in New Haven.

Eleanor Page and Shaun Radgowski received first place in the category of Group Documentary. Abigail Baukus and Cassidy Atkinson received second place in the category of Group Website. Sarah Bigalbal won third place in the category of Individual Documentary.

The students will move on to a statewide competition on April 28 at the Connecticut Historical Society and the Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School.

It is tradition for students enrolled in the enrichment program at Tyl to participate in National History Day. For the last three years at least one student from the school has advanced to a national competition, enrichment program teacher Abby Baldino said. This year it will be held at the University of Maryland.
