Lisbon – A Jewett City man kneeling on the train tracks near Bundy Hill Road was hit by an oncoming train Wednesday afternoon and later died at the hospital.

State police said Douglas J. Fowler, 46, of 18 Palmer Ave., was hit by the Providence & Worcester Engine No. 2007 around 12:18 p.m. Fowler was taken to The William W. Backus hospital in Norwich, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the train engineer blew the train's horn several times when he saw Fowler kneeling in the tracks but that Fowler did not move or look in the train's direction as it approached.

Police said the death has no criminal aspect.
