Woman charged with leaving scene of accident

North Stonington – Police arrested an intoxicated Rhode Island woman Tuesday night at a Dunkin’ Donuts after she allegedly side swiped another vehicle on the Route 2 casino “flyover” and fled the scene of the crash.

After the 9 p.m. accident, police charged Alison Melbourne, 42, of Bradford, R.I., with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and evading the scene of an accident.

State police said Melbourne was driving westbound on the Route 2 bypass near the Foxwoods Resort Casino entrance when she crossed the double yellow line and side swiped an eastbound vehicle. Police said both vehicles were heavily damaged and that Melbourne fled the scene. She was later apprehended at a Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 2 in Preston.

Police reported no major injuries.
