Mohegan Sun to roll out major slot-machine modifications

Mohegan Sun is preparing to unveil new slot-machine technology next month in an upgrade it's touting as “one of the largest changeovers to an existing casino floor in the history of the gaming industry.”

The casino announced in a press release that it will roll out PowerPlay Bonusing, a collaboration with Bally Technologies, on Memorial Day weekend. The new programming, dubbed iView and iView Display Manager with Elite Bonusing Suite, will be installed on nearly 6,000 machines throughout Mohegan Sun.

Previews will begin May 5.

The new interactive communication tools will provide real-time, point-of-play rewards and promotions, the casino said in its release.

Easy-to-play progressives, slot tournaments, virtual racing and wheel promotions will provide more ways for guests to win instantly. At the same time, they will have instant access to property information, entertainment, restaurants and retailers, as well as Player’s Club point balances.

“It became clear to us that the best way to grow in this increasingly competitive market is to have the most innovative tools available and provide the best gaming experience for our guests,” Jeffrey Hartmann, Mohegan Sun’s president and chief executive officer, said in the release.

“Not only is Mohegan Sun part of an elite group of casinos worldwide offering this technology, but it is the only casino in the Northeast and the largest in the country to offer this unique bonusing product for our guests,” he said.

The conversion project has taken five months to complete and required the installation of more than 5½ miles of fiber-optic wire.

Mohegan Sun had reached an agreement with Bally last October.
