The basics: Destiny Africa Children's Choir from Uganda will give two performances in the region this week: at 6:30 tonight at Park Congregational Church in Norwich and at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell College in New London.

A new life: These children were rescued from horrible situations; orphaned, they struggled in the midst of war and poverty. Now, they live at Kampala Children's Centre, which is a community of homes, a school, a farm, youth center, workshop and other resources for the youths. It's located in Kampala, Uganda.

Other fans: On their UK tour, the Destiny Africa Children's Choir performed for Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

About the show: The choir members will sing contemporary and traditional African songs, and they'll drum and dance, too. For the Tuesday performance at Mitchell College, groups of students from New London public schools,Writer's Block, ISAAC and Regional Multi-Cultural Magnet schools are working with the chorus to produce a final presentation.
