Man charged with stealing 1,200-pound turtle statue

North Stonington – A local man was arrested Saturday on larceny and criminal mischief charges after he allegedly stole a 1,200-pound iron turtle from a Clark Falls Road property and dragged it with a pickup truck down the roadway and into the woods.

Zachary Service, 19, of 320 Pendleton Hill Road was charged with first-degree larceny and first-degree criminal mischief. He was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on May 12.

Police said at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, the turtle statue was stolen from the front yard of 1 Clark Falls Road and was dragged by a pickup truck down the roadway and into the woods. The statue was found less than a mile from its home in the woods off Pendleton Hill Road.
