Norwich — Police say a “belligerent” man went on a rampage of bad behavior Tuesday, exposing his genitals to customers inside a Town Street business before assaulting an elderly man and a police officer at a Wayne Street residence.

After Officer Michael McKinney subdued the suspect following a brief struggle, Travis R. Long, 29, of no certain address was charged Tuesday with assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of an elderly person, second-degree intimidation based on bigotry or bias and second-degree breach of peace.

Police said they received a call around 10:54 a.m. after Long exposed his genitals to patrons at a Town Street business. He then went to Wayne Street and assaulted the elderly man, who suffered minor injuries, police said. When McKinney arrived at the residence, police said, Long directed a racial slur at McKinney and began a physical altercation. After the struggle, McKinney was able to subdue and arrest Long, police said.

McKinney went to The William W. Backus Hospital after suffering a minor leg injury in the altercation, police said.

Long is held on $50,000 bond and is due to appear in court today.
