Subway honored as top franchise

Milford-based Subway announced Wednesday that the restaurant chain has been named for the second straight year as the Franchise Direct Top Global Franchise.

The listing of the United States' top 100 franchises ranks companies based on size of the chain, sales revenue, financial stability and sales growth plus market expansion.

The ranking also cites companies with "a clear business plan, a commitment to training and support, an ability to innovate and sensitivity to environmental issues."

During the first quarter of 2012, Subway reached a milestone of 25,000 U.S. restaurants. Subway currently operates in 100 nations across the globe and at 36,700 locations.
