Ledyard -- Two passengers in a car that left Rose Hill Road and crashed into a wooded area early this morning were taken to William W. Backus Hospital, according to the police.
LifeStar was called but was unavailable to fly because of the weather, police said. One of the passengers was seriously injured, police said.
The driver of the Mitsubushi Lancer, Toni Murallo, 51, of 9 Crandell Hill Road, Montville, was uninjured. The passengers, Cory Hotzler, 27, of 2 Highland St., Taftville, and Jarrod Fletcher, 28, of South Kingstown, R.I., were transported by ambulance to Backus.
Hotzler was treated at Backus and transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, where information about his condition was unavailable to night. Fletcher was treated at Backus and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The Ledyard Police Department, Ledyard Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Preston and Poquetanuck Fire Departments, American Ambulance Paramedic, and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Paramedics responded.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation.
