Police said a Norwich man was driving around Queens, New York, Sunday afternoon with two kilos of cocaine and his 13-year-old son in the car.

The New York Police Department charged Silvestre Mahon, 34, of 29 Allyn Ave., Norwich, with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, unlawful possession of marijuana and a window tint violation.

Two police officers on foot patrol pulled over Mahon on Jamaica Avenue at 165th Street because of the dark window tints on Mahon's 2007 Honda Accord. The officers smelled marijuana in the vehicle, asked Mahon to step out of the car and then saw a gravity knife, crack cocaine and marijuana sitting out in plain view. Police said an inventory search of the car revealed a backpack in the trunk with two kilos of cocaine. Police also seized cash and three cell phones.

Police released Mahon's 13-year-old son, in the car at the time, to the custody of his mother.
