New London -- The police department has issued a warning to residents about scams occurring in the area.
A department press release said that people have been getting calls and door-to-door solicitation offering bogus products and services including prizes, chimney sweeping and roof repair, and individuals claiming to be representatives from banks or organizations that need to update account information.
Police urge residents not to give out personal information nor send strangers money. Do not conduct business over the telephone that is unsolicited nor allow door-to-door solicitors into your home.
Residents should be aware that there is a city ordinance that prohibits door-to-door solicitation without a permit. Please report all door-to-door solicitors to the police department. If you feel you have been the target of a scam, report it immediately to the New London police via the routine call line, (860) 447-5269.
