Thank you, Governor Walker. Perhaps, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the beleaguered taxpayers. Had citizens stood up to this government abuse years ago, New London would have either gone bankrupt or gotten its financial act together.

This year is the year everyone must support the effort to bring the budget to referendum, many times if necessary. Taxes do not need to go up. More efficiencies, fewer employees and reduced benefits will go a long way toward balancing the budget without raising taxes.

We are in a recession. Many citizens are suffering. Does the administration and city council realize what they are doing by proposing a tax increase?

My proposal is to set a figure no higher than last year's budget and downsize and streamline every department until this figure is met. Governments as a whole are wasteful with taxpayers' money, so enlist the private business sector and have them rework the budget.

This is the ninth round between "Ali" and George Foreman. The taxpayers are finished being the city's punching bag. Citizens, get involved or face another tax increase. Remember, the city is working for us, not the other way around.
