Stonington author, 98, to receive letter from Obama

Published June 11. 2012 4:00AM

Ninety-eight-year-old author Jim Henry of Stonington will receive more accolades today when U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney will present him with a congratulatory letter from President Obama as well as a letter noting his book "In a Fishermen's Language" has been accepted into the collection of the Library of Congress.

Henry will receive the letters during a ceremony at Ledyard Center School where he has befriended students in one of the classes.

Henry is also scheduled to help hand out diplomas to the graduating class of the Fishers Island School on June 22. His book is slated to be available on Amazon.com beginning today and a New York independent film company has been signed to make a movie about his life. Henry, who learned to read and write when he was 91, is now working on his second book.
