I was recently reminded of what a generous community I live in.
I am a Boy Scout in Troop 2 Mystic and a junior at Fitch High School. Over the past two weeks I have been implementing my Eagle Scout Project in support of the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut. The center provides support and services to individuals who have been touched by domestic violence. In an effort to support this organization that is making such a difference close to home, I organized a collection of wish list items in Mystic.
On May 26, scouts from my troop and parents left donation bags with an enclosed wish list from the Women's Center at about 500 homes in Mystic. Two weeks later, we returned to retrieve the donations. The response of the Mystic community far exceeded my expectations. We were able to deliver five truckloads of items to the center, and a generous check.
The outpouring of support from this community to help individuals who have been touched by domestic violence get back on their feet was inspiring and, I am sure, will make a difference to the Women's Center. I express my appreciation to all of those individuals and local businesses who gave, and the Troop 2 scouts and parents who helped.
