New London — Police arrested a man Sunday who was seen firing a gun into a crowd of people on Green Street.

Two people were treated for minor injuries following the 2 a.m. shooting, police said.

Javier Muniz, 25, of no certain address, was charged Sunday with interfering with police, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm under the influence of alcohol or drugs and two counts of first-degree assault.

Muniz allegedly discharged a firearm into a group of people outside 96 Green St., police said. He attempted to flee on foot but police officers gave chase. He was detained a short distance away, where he attempted to discard the firearm, police said.

Officers were able to control the accused and place him under arrest.

No other information was available Sunday night.
