Groton - USS Annapolis departed for deployment January 3 conducting maritime security and theater security cooperation efforts in the 5th and 6th Fleet area of operations. Annapolis steamed more than 31,000 miles over the course of her six-month deployment. Annapolis visited ports in Bahrain, Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, Toulon, France and Souda Bay, Greece during the deployment.
Also returning Wednesday was the attack submarine USS Pittsburgh following a six-month deployment that included stops in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Spain.
The Navy says the Los Angeles-class attack submarine traveled more than 29,000 miles during the deployment that began in December.
The sub was commissioned in 1985. It is the fourth American warship to be named for the city of Pittsburgh.
