Police use Taser to apprehend robbery suspect

Brooklyn — A suspect in an armed robbery at a gas station punched a state trooper in the face and tried to flee after he heard his description being broadcast over the trooper's radio.

Police said at 4:14 a.m. Troop D in Danielson received a 911 call for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Sunoco Station located at 500 Providence Road.

Troopers arrived at the scene and learned that the suspect demanded money and said he had a gun.

The robber was described as a heavy set, black male who was around 5 feet, 6 inches tall.

A trooper patrolling the area found a man fitting that description on Route 6 and Day Street.

As the trooper was talking with the man, the suspect heard his description being broadcast on the radio. Police said that this prompted the man to punch the trooper and flee.

The trooper used his Taser to subdue the man and place him under arrest.

The man, who was later identified as Myron Johnson, 41, of Plainfield, was found with the stolen cash.

Johnson was taken to the Day Kimball Hospital for removal of the Taser prongs and then transported to Troop D, where he was processed.

Police said he would be charged with robbery and larceny charges and assault on a police officer.

He is being held on a $500,000 bond, pending his arraignment Tuesday in Killingly Superior Court.
