Hopkinton, R.I. — The town's police chief confirmed this afternoon that the Boy Scouts troop leader who collapsed is Mystic resident David B. Collier.

Collier, 44, collapsed at the Camp Yawgoog Boy Scout reservation on Wednesday.

Hopkinton Police Chief David Palmer said that Collier, an attorney with an office at 164 Hempstead St. in New London, was on the challenge course of the camp when he collapsed around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Emergency crews from Ashaway and Hope Valley responded to the camp, performed CPR on Collier and then transported him to Westerly Hospital, where he died, Palmer said.

Camp Yawgoog is the largest Boy Scout camp in New England, Palmer said. Over the summer, thousands of scouts travel to the camp.
