Connecticut residents spend 2.4 percent of their annual household income on car insurance, compared with 8 percent in Michigan, according to CarInsuranceQuotes.com.

Louisiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Mississippi are the other top five insurance-cost states. Massachusetts, North Carolina, Hawaii, Alaska and Oregon are the most affordable states.

The typical Connecticut household, pays $1,984 for car insurance. Connecticut ranks 23rd lowest in car insurance costs nationwide.
