The art of a Tuesday

Whew! Misread the letterhead on the latest press release from the Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme. I thought it said "Cooler Gallery." As most of you know from watching "Roadhouse" a bouncer is known in the saloon trade as "a cooler" - and I had a horrible fear that some lunatic had opened a new art gallery devoted to paintings and photographs exclusively pertaining to bar bouncers!

As it turns out, the Cooley Gallery's latest exhibition contains no images of either Wade Garrett or Dalton. Instead, "Tuesdays," which opens with an artists reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, boasts new works from three women artists: Angie Falstrom, Judy Friday (see image) and Jodi Meunch - three friends who get together each Tuesday to paint and enjoy each other's company. Runs through Sept. 15. The Cooley Gallery is at 25 Lyme St., Old Lyme. Hours 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tues.-Sat. (860) 434-8807, cooleygallery.com.

What's your response to Mitt Romney's decision to pick Paul Ryan as his running mate in this year's presidential election?
As a diehard conservative, this pick excites me for the November election.
I'm a moderate Republican and would have preferred a less polarizing running mate.
As a Democrat, I'm now more motivated to rally voters around Pres. Obama.
I'm withholding judgment until I know more about Congressman Ryan.
