Mystic — A controversial plan to build a dental clinic on property at the corner of Masons Island Road and Harry Austin Drive, the access road that leads into the Ocean Community YMCA, is expected to be resubmitted and a public hearing possibly held sometime in the middle of October, according to Acting Director of Planning Keith Brynes.
The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission had slated three public hearing on the plan. The first was postponed because the project had not yet received a wetlands permit and the next two on Aug. 7 and 15 were postponed after the project engineer became ill.
Because the deadline was approaching to close the hearing, the developer, Summit Street Development of New London, withdrew the application and plans to resubmit it, which will give the commission a new 65 days to hold and close the hearing, according to Brynes.
Summit Street is seeking a special use permit to build a two-story, 9,075-square-foot building. Neighbors are worried about parking, traffic and safety issues, the size of the building, as well as potential impact on wetlands.
