Westerly - New England Science & Sailing of Stonington will hold its first "Catch a Curl" Surf Competition for youth surfers on Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Misquamicut State Beach.
The event, which organizers want to hold annually, is open to beginners and advanced surfers with prizes for surfing categories by ability. NESS and Narrangansett Surf Shop will have surfboards and wetsuits available for rent. Registration is $35 per person.
Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. the day of the event or in advance by contacting email@example.com and (860) 535-9362.
There will also be a community beach cleanup at the end of the event.
"We're doing this because NESS wants to promote the clean and healthy sport of surfing consistent with its mission to get more people in and on the water having fun," said event organizer Mistral Dodson, a program director at NESS.
