Local Roundup: Tigers close out home schedule with a win

Norwich - The Connecticut Tigers won their home finale Sunday, beating the Lowell Spinners 3-2 in 10 innings to complete a three-game sweep at Dodd Stadium in New York-Penn League baseball.

Jake Stewart's safety squeeze scored Jordan Dean, who had doubled and been sacrificed to third, with the game-winner in the 10th. The Tigers (34-38) finish the season with a three-game series at Staten Island beginning tonight at 7 p.m.

Danry Vasquez's two-run homer in the third accounted for the rest of Connecticut's runs. Juaner Aguasvivas, Stewart and Vasquez hadtwo hits each for the Tigers.

Women's soccer

• UConn rallied for a 1-1 tie with No. 16 Santa Clara at the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational. Danielle Schulmann brought the Huskies even with a goal 22:58 into the match, with Jennifer Skogerboe assisting.

Lauren Matheson scored at 8:57 to give Santa Clara (2-1-1) the lead. Allison Saucier made two saves for UConn (2-1-1).

Waterford Speedbowl

• The four races which were rained out during Saturday's Thunder on the Sound event at Waterford Speedbowl have been rescheduled.

The completion of the 16th annual Budweiser Modified Nationals SK-150 will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15 along with the Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model 30-lap feature. The remaining 141-laps of the SK-150 will join twin 30-lap Late Model features plus the Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Legend Cars on that date.

On Saturday, Sept. 22 twin 35-lap races for the SK Modifieds will highlight the racing program. In addition, the SK Light Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and X-Cars will all be in action as originally scheduled for the night.

Saturday, Sept. 29 will be highlighted by twin 25-lap features for each the Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions. Their make-up features from Thunder on the Sound join the night's originally scheduled races included for the SK Modifieds, Late Models, Legend Cars and Bandoleros.

Prices for all the adjusted event schedules above with additional feature races will remain the same including the SK-150, with no increase in admission. Details for all the remaining events are available by visiting www.Speedbowl.com.
