New London - City police arrested two Navy men Saturday in connection with an early-morning altercation in which a third man was injured.

Tyrell Cook, 23, and Clement Bell Jr., 23, both of the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, were each charged with second-degree assault.

The victim was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police arrived at the scene of the altercation in the area of 176 Bank St. about 2:30 a.m., and found the victim lying on the ground with non-life-threatening injuries to the head, police said.

A witness identified Cook and Bell as having been involved in the incident, police said.

After conducting interviews, police determined that the victim struck Bell during the altercation and was then knocked to the ground and kicked in the head.
