UConn starting point guard Shabazz Napier will be sidelined for several weeks after undergoing surgery on his right foot on Friday, according to a university release.

Napier has been dealing with a nagging stress fracture for a few months.

During surgery at John Dempsey Hospital at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, he had a screw inserted to help the healing process. He is wearing a walking boot.

He's expected to make a full recovery and be 100 percent by the first official basketball practice on Oct. 13.

Napier, a junior, is UConn's most experienced player, averaging 13 points, 5.8 assists and 35 minutes per game while appearing in 34 games last season.
