The privateer Lynx, a reproduction of a 19th-century square topsail schooner, will visit New London later this month in connection with the city's Best BBQ Chef Competition.
The tall ship, manned by an eight-member crew, is scheduled to arrive at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Waterfront Park, and will be available for public tours and sailing excursions through Sunday, Sept. 30.
The original Lynx helped defend the United States during the War of 1812. The reproduction was built in Rockport, Maine, and commissioned in 2001. Fitted with period ordnance, pennants and flags, it serves as a sailing classroom.
