New London — A New London man was arrested Monday night after police said he assaulted another man in an apartment at 127 Hempstead St.
William Lee, 36, of 127 Hempstead St., Apt. 708, was charged with second-degree assault.
Police said at 8:58 p.m. police were dispatched to 127 Hempstead St. for a report that a man was bleeding heavily from a head wound.
Police found the victim, later identified as 55-year-old James Robinson, of no certain address, exiting an elevator covered in blood. Police said he had a large cut on his forehead.
Police said that Robinson was sitting on a couch in apartment 704 when Lee punched him several times on the face.
Robinson was able to flee to a bathroom as the attack was taking place, police said.
They found Lee in apartment 708, where he lives.
Police said an initial investigation revealed that both parties appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack.
Robinson was taken to an area hospital for treatment of is injuries.
