George Holmes

What a nice thing it is that George Holmes does every year. The professional drummer performs a show specifically to raise funds for New London Salvation Army youth programs.

His concert this Saturday afternoon marks his eighth such benefit. And you can expect some of his relatives to join in the drumming fun. You see, musical ability runs in the Holmes family. George's son Robert is a professional drummer in Maryland. George's son Richard is a local professional drummer. In addition to Holmes' sons, George's grandchildren Skylar and Bryan have performed at these shows. That's more familial talent than you can shake an, um, drum stick at.

George Holmes Drum Extravaganza, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Salvation Army, 11 Gov. Winthrop Blvd., New London; proceeds support youth programs at the New London Salvation Army; $5; (860) 443-6409, info@SAnewlondon.org.
