Stonington — The Economic Development Commission will hold a public forum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the police station to get input on broadening the uses allowed in the town's M-1 manufacturing zone.

Commission Chairman Blunt White said in a press release Wednesday that the departure of Yardney Technical Products from its location on Mechanic Street in Pawcatuck will result in 260,000 square feet of additional vacant space. Meanwhile, he said the commission believes that broadening the uses allowed in the M1 zone will benefit the community and that the current uses allowed in the zone "no longer reflect what is needed for mill re-use and higher levels of occupancy."

A company called Mystic Spine and Sport has filed an application with the Planning and Zoning Commission to amend the zoning regulations to allow health clubs in the M1 zone.
