Ledyard - Ledyard High School science teacher David Bednarz was awarded the “Marine Educator of the Year” award by the Southeastern New England Marine Educators Association for 2012 at their fall meeting held at Mystic Aquarium Sunday.

Bednarz was recognized for his more than 20 years of teaching marine science, both as a part-time instructor at Project Oceanology – the marine science and environmental education program located at UConn’s Avery Point campus – and a teacher at Ledyard High School.

The organization also recognized Bednarz for his coaching of Ledyard High School’s National Ocean Sciences Bowl team since 2005. The team won the regional Quahog Bowl in February, advancing to the national competition in Baltimore, Md., in April.
