An Aug. 16 letter, "Ryan offers only more empty rhetoric," complained about the empty rhetoric of Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential candidate. The writer's closing statement read, "You really do wonder how dumb they think we are." I assume this point was made either against politicians in general or Republicans specifically. Whatever the case may be, Mr. Ryan has not yet had the opportunity to corroborate that his rhetoric is empty. But don't despair, sir. President Obama has come through in grand style to prove your point. Despite his lack of experience and heritage of questionable Chicago politics, we listened to his rhetoric and voted him into the presidency. Look at what happened, or rather, what didn't happen.
