Warm the Hearts and Homes

On behalf of The Madison Foundation Neighbor to Neighbor Fund (N2N) I would like (for the third year) to extend our most sincere thanks and gratitude to all of the many volunteers, patrons, advertisers, and donors responsible for the success of this summer's Pitching for Charity event at the Surf Club. The proceeds from this event provide great support for N2N programs as we head into the winter months.

Madison N2N purchases and distributes personal necessities at the Madison Food Pantry. N2N's volunteers, who drive for the Homebound Delivery Program, make sure that people unable to leave their homes due to illness and infirmity, receive all that the food pantry has to offer.

N2N also offers Madison families Emergency Fuel and Energy Assistance through programs, administered by Madison Youth and Family Services.

As Madison's unemployment numbers continue to increase, these, and other N2N programs, provide a safety net for Madison families.

With winter approaching and Madison's unemployment numbers continuing to rise, the generosity of Coldwell Banker, Christie's/Page-Taft, Prudential, William Pitt/Sotheby's, and William Raveis real estate agencies as well as the Madison Chamber of Commerce and the Madison Fire Department-Hose Company 1, is greatly appreciated. Their contributions will help warm the hearts and homes of many Madison Neighbors.

Data released this week shows SAT scores dipped this year in two of the test's three categories. How much weight should colleges and universities place on SAT scores?
Let's get rid of the SATs. Standardized tests are culturally and racially biased, and they cannot predict student success in college.

We need the SATs. It's the only fair way to compare apples to apples when it comes to students from different school systems.
35%
Colleges should consider SAT scores but not put too much emphasis on them.
30%
The SATs are a scam. Schools emphasize this test because it looks good for them to accept applicants with high scores, but the approach does not serve students at all.
