Scott Cook, head coach of the St. Bernard/Norwich Tech cooperative football team, has been told that he must resign or be fired, sources told The Day.

The players dropped off their equipment at the office of St. Bernard athletic director Brendan Case and don’t intend to play for another coach, according to senior Matt Manavas.

“Our whole football team wants coach Cook,” said Manavas, who attends Norwich Tech. “He’s a part of our family. He’s worked his butt of for us. … and we don’t want to lose him.

“All the equipment is handed in at Mr. Case’s office. Tomorrow, we’ll all be handing in our helmets to make a statement.”

Manavas said players from both schools intend to meet with their respective school administrators on Thursday morning.

The Saints have a bye this week and are not scheduled to play again until Saturday, Oct. 13, at Bacon Academy.
