East Hartford - Ben Ostrowski was ninth in the boys' seeded race in 17 minutes, 29 seconds at the Wickham Invitational cross country meet Saturday, leading East Lyme High School to a second-place finish with 192 points. Farmington was first with 121.
Jon Combies was 15th for East Lyme, followed by Tim Myers 34th and Scott Butler 35th.
Montville's Jesse Joseph was 17th in the race in 17:37 and St. Bernard freshman Connor Gralton was 26th in 17:57.
Ledyard's boys were second in the unseeded race with 269 points, trailing Joel Barlow, which won with 224. Sophomore Bryce Hedman led the Colonels, finishing 22nd in 18:36. Tyler Torelli was 32nd, Aaron Norcia 42nd and Max Armstrong 43rd. Wheeler's Asa Palmer was 38th in 18:58.
Norwich Free Academy's Kyle Liang was the top local boys' finisher on the day, completing the championship race in 17:26, good for 13th place.
The top local girls' runner was Ledyard's Jordan Houdeshell, 10th in the girls' unseeded race in 21:35 to lead the Colonels to a seventh-place finish with 231 points. Waterford's Sara-Caitrin Mandelburg was 18th in 22:18 and St. Bernard's Heather Wallace 27th in 22:40. Waterford was 10th in the team standings with 255 points.
NFA's Alyssa Field was 38th in the championship race in 22:08 and Fitch's Sarah Dinovelli was 49th in 22:27.
Stonington's Antonia Reynolds was 37th in the seeded race in 21:57, Old Lyme's Abby Guitar was 43rd in 22:05 and East Lyme's Eva Christensen 50th in 22:30.
• Genaya Loftis scored the game's only goal as Waterford edged Stonington 1-0. The Lancerse (6-0-2) held a 17-7 shots edge and goalie Julia Zawacki made five saves for the shutout. Gabi Hoops made nine saves for the Bears (8-3).
• Fitch bounced back after losing the first set to beat Bristol Central 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19 in a nonconference road match. Both teams are 8-2. Nikkie Schoolcraft led the Falcons with 40 assists while Ashley Adams had 12 kills, 15 service points and four aces, Taylor Kelsey had 11 kills and Olivia Kosztala had nine kills.
