New London - As part of its 2012 national concert tour, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band performs a concert in Leamy Concert Hall Oct. 21 at 2 pm.

The concert, sponsored by the United States Coast Guard Band, is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

In the style of the band's 17th Director John Philip Sousa, who initiated the concert tour tradition in 1891, Marine Band Director Col. Michael J. Colburn has chosen a diverse mix of music, from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos.

Rimsky-Korsakov's classic Russian Easter Overture contrasts with John Mackey's "Asphalt Cocktail." Patriotic fare includes favorites such as "The Stars and Stripes Forever" march and "A Salute to the Armed Forces of the United States of America." Euphoniumist Gunnery Sgt. Mark Jenkins performs "Napoli" and Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Bennear, baritone, sings Irish Songs.

The Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization and the band has performed for every U.S. president since John Adams. Leamy Hall is located at 15 Mohegan Ave. For more information, call (860) 701-6826 or visit www.uscg.mil/band.
