Gada lifts NFA to girls' soccer victory
Norwich — Megan Gada scored with 7:30 left in the game to give the Norwich Free Academy girls’ soccer team a 2-1 win over Woodstock Thursday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division game.
Gabby Wise scored for NFA (6-2-2, 2-1-2) and Maya Bell and Gada each had an assist. Katherine Beasley also had six saves.
In other games:
■ Theresa Durkee and Jessica Kenny both scored for unbeaten East Lyme as it beat Fitch, 2-1, in the ECC Large. Allison Stoddard had seven saves for East Lyme (8-0-2, 3-0-2). Alyson Clarke scored and Holly Zeppieri had the assist for the Falcons (5-3-2, 1-3-1). Also, Nicole Sexton had 16 saves.
■ Catie Quaratella, Lexi Sibley and Hannah Behringer scored as Old Lyme bested East Hampton, 3-1, to remain unbeaten in the Shoreline Conference. Hannah O’Brien and Kristina Cain each had an assist for the Wildcats (7-1-1, 6-0-1) and Tori Sims added five saves.
■ Montville scored once in each half and beat New London 2-0 in a ECC Medium Division game. Hannah Meyers and Abby McAdams scored goals, Caitlin Turney and Jennifer McNamara had assists and Meagan Autencio made three saves for Montville (5-5, 3-4). Shaiann Rosado made seven saves for New London (2-9, 0-5).
■ East Lyme swept past Plainfield in a nonleague match, winning 25-11, 25-14, 25-16. Jane Bartlett had nine service points and Kayla Fobian had eight kills for East Lyme (10-2).
■ Amanda Tourjee had 26 assists and six aces as Waterford beat Montville 25-15, 25-21, 25-14. Jill Fal had nine kills for waterford (6-6) and Kelsey Johnson added three blocks and two aces. The Indians are 4-7.
H.S. field hockey
■ Hannah Long scored twice to lead NFA to a 3-1 win over Killingly in an ECC game. Shylia Barnes also scored, Ellen Popinchalk and Ellie Swanson had assists and Becca Aprin made 11 saves for NFA (6-3, 4-3).
College women’s tennis
■ Mitchell College dropped a 7-2 decision to Newbury in a New England Collegiate Conference match. Chelsea Arpin won her singles match and teamed with Dominique Lacroix for a doubles win for Mitchell (3-7, 3-5).
College women’s soccer
■ UConn lost to Pittsburgh 2-1 in a Big East Conference game. Riley Houle scored for UConn (7-7-2, 3-5-1).
